A short, flat lap of the bay in the middle of the city, past Oodi, Finlandia Hall and the Opera.
Töölönlahti is the running track of central Helsinki. The loop circles a small bay just north of the Central Station, framed by some of the city's best-known buildings: Oodi library, Kiasma, Finlandia Hall and the National Opera.
The path is wide, mostly fine gravel and almost completely flat, which makes it ideal for easy runs, strides or a quick shakeout the day before a race. At the north end the route passes Hesperia park and the Linnunlaulu hillside with its wooden villas.
Because it is short and central, it combines well with other routes. Add it to the start of the Seurasaari run or repeat it for a longer session.
Highlights
- Oodi, Helsinki Central Library
- Finlandia Hall
- Finnish National Opera
- Linnunlaulu villas
Practical notes
- Very popular with runners, so keep right on the narrower sections.
- Good choice when it is windy on the coast.
- Tokoinranta parkrun runs nearby every Saturday morning.
