The classic Helsinki seafront loop: Market Square, the Kaivopuisto shore and back through the park.
If you only run once in Helsinki, run here. From Market Square the route follows the harbour past the Olympia ferry terminal and out to the open-sea shoreline of Kaivopuisto, where the view opens to the islands of the southern archipelago.
The shore path continues west towards Merisatama and the edge of Eira, then turns back inland through the rolling lawns of Kaivopuisto park and along quiet embassy streets to the Esplanadi and your starting point.
It is short enough for a before-breakfast run and scenic enough to repeat. Locals often add a second lap or continue along the South Helsinki Shoreline.
Highlights
- Market Square and the Old Market Hall
- Open-sea views from the Kaivopuisto shore
- Café Ursula on the waterfront
- Kaivopuisto park and its hill
Practical notes
- Busy with walkers on sunny summer afternoons, so go early.
- Exposed to sea wind; bring a layer outside summer.
- Well lit and usually cleared of snow in winter, but sanded paths can be icy.
