West Helsinki at its best: Hietaniemi beach, the Sibelius Monument and the forest island of Seurasaari.
This route links the calm western shoreline of the city with one of its most loved islands. From Töölönlahti it crosses to Hietaniemi beach and follows the shore of Taivallahti to Sibelius park and its steel-pipe monument to Finland's national composer.
A white wooden bridge takes you onto Seurasaari, an island of forest paths and open-air museum buildings. The paths are soft, the pines are tall and in the early morning you may meet more squirrels than people.
The way back runs through Meilahti and past the Olympic Stadium to finish at Töölönlahti. A lovely long easy run in any season.
